Yamunotri

Yamunotri Temple
Yamunotri Temple

One of the major attractions of Yamunotri, this temple was built in the 19th century by Maharani Gularia of Jaipur. Dedicated to Yamuna, the temple has two silver idols of Yama and Yamuna. During winters the temple is closed and the deity is taken to the Kharsali village. Aarti timings are from 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm. Diwali and Janmashtami are the two eves of special worship here.

A pillar near the Yamunotri temple, it is revered by the devotees as they first visit the pillar, offer pujas here and then enter the temple. 

Surya Kund
Surya Kund

One of the most visited thermal springs in India; it is located near Yamunotri Temple. The heat oozed by the spring is hot enough for preparing Prasad (prepared by boiling rice mixed with salt and potatoes, tied up in a muslin cloth and dipped in the spring) to offer in the temple. The estimated temperature of Surya Kund is 88°C.     

Hanuman Chatti
Hanuman Chatti

This is a hilly terrain, 13 km. from the region of Yamunotri and also a popular trekking spot for adventurers. Hanuman Chatti to Yamunotri is a very popular trekking route.

Barkot
Barkot

A major halting point for the devotees of religious Char-Dham Yatra. This hilly town has plenty of apple orchards. Since it has many ancient temples, many pilgrims stay in the nearby tents during their Char Dham Yatra.

Kharsali
Kharsali

Just a km. away from Yamunotri, this site is a frequently visited picnic spot of the region. Picturesque surroundings, cascading waterfalls and sparkling streams make it a perfect retreat for short outings. The stone carved ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva has some amazing wooden work.
