Well, we are speaking about the very famous “Jaisalmer Desert Festival”. This year the “Jaisalmer Desert Festival” is taking place from 12th to 14th February.
Jaisalmer, crowned with the golden Jaisalmer Fort, occupying the pride of the palace in the monochromatic sandy landscape is truly bewitching. This quite, enchanted, golden world reflecting upon the golden rays of the sun suddenly once and for all turns up and shows its new pretty colorful face once during the whole year. It’s the time for celebration, dancing, singing, merry making and discovering the true spirit of Rajasthan, all with the stunning backdrop of the Sam Sand Dunes. It is at this festival that the empty treks of sand dunes come alive with the brilliant colour, music and laughter of the festival. You will be amazed to see how the desert can be filled up with different vibrant colours, the beautifully decorated elephant and camel parades, the huge crowds of people from all over the world, of all age, the traditional ‘Kalbelia Dance’, the Rajasthan folk music and the delicious Rajasthani platter serving the heart wining “Dal Bhati Churma” and the various road side stalls promising you the best souvenir of the kind. Well, all of these simply cannot be put into simple words. You have be there to believe it and experience it. And once you have experienced it, you will be waiting to spend your next winter at the Desert Festival next year. It won’t be wrong to say the sun never sets in the desert at the festival time. You can start your day with the brightly adorned camel and elephant parades, then comes the puppet dancing, the musical gala, the fire dancers, the various kinds of competitions; the Mr. Desert Contest, the best Moustache competition where all the proud owners of the moustaches queue up hoping to bag in the “Best Moustache Tag” (it is in great demand among the foreign tourists), the fancy dressed up locals, the camel polo sport, turban tying competition, camel decoration and many more. Well, the day passes full of chaos, laughter, bizarre games, hoping from stall to stall, soaking into all the colours of Rajasthan that the festival offers you. As the night, sweeps in slowly casting its bewitching spell all over the sand dunes and the hearts of the thousands of tourists, assembled under the moonlit sky with the bonfire burning brightly, is the experience which cannot afford to be missed. The nights are kept for the music concerts and the traditional dancing. Sit quietly and enjoy the concert, biting away the chilly winds with the warmth of the fire burning beside. People flock in together like swarm of bees to witness the mega show and the no. of people increases as the time passes by. The last moonlight night of the festival is crowned with the Light and Sound show amid the sand dunes reaching everyone’s heart and embedding its memories forever there.
