Located close to Annamalai University, Tiruvetkalam Temple is 16th century construction dedicated to Pasupateswar i.e. Lord Shiva. It is also the place where Lord Shiva gave Arjuna the Pasupata weapon.
Nataraja Temple is not only the main temple dedicated to dancing Shiva but is also one of the must see places in Chidambaram. The temple has undergone multiple renovations during the Chola and Pallava dynasties.
With 11,000 hectares of area, Pitchavaram backwaters is a very popular picnic spot. The place also has around 3000 acres of mangrove forest. It also has multiple channels and creeks suitable for boating and water sports.
Famous for the Sivaganga Tank and thousand pillared hall, Sivakamiamman Temple has a brightly illuminated garbha griha that has exotic sculptural features and granite idol of the Goddess. Agamic worshipping is performed by priests in the temple.
Situated at Tirukolakka located 1 km. to the west of Chidambaram, Chathapruinathar is a Shiva Temple and also has the idol of Osai Kodutha Nayagi and is a world heritage site.
Famous for the shrine of Lord Subramania as Muthukumara, Vadieeswaran Temple has multiple miniature shrines and several bronze statues including that of Nataraja.
Located near the northern end of main Nataraja Temple, Thillai Kali Amman Temple is dedicated to mother Goddess Kali. The main idol in the temple has four faces. Several other stone idols present here evoke the interest of the pilgrims.
