Located near the holy River Krishna, which is known as Pataal Ganga due to its journey underground (pataal) at few places, the temple flaunts a remarkable Dravidian Architecture style with lofty Gopurams (temple gateway towers) and richly carved walls. It was here that Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati appeared in the form of Arjuna and Mallika respectively and took the form of a Jyotirlinga. During Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga tour, you would feel the presence of the supreme God at this Jyotirlinga shrine.

It is worth mentioning that Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga tour is special because it is one of the three Shiva-Shakti Peethas (where Shiva and Shakti shrines are located adjacently). Goddess Shakti is worshipped here as Goddess Bhrambaramba, a ferocious form of Goddess Kali.

Day by Day itineraryDay 1: Hyderabad Arrival – Srisailam (213 km.)

Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga tour begins with your arrival at the airport or railway station of Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh. Meet our tour representative and take up the road journey to reach Srisailam. The holy town on the bank of River Krishna is filled with spirituality and peace that would instantly overwhelm your senses. On arrival, check in at the booked hotel and relax. After you freshen up, we take you to Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga shrine which is located at the height of more than 450 m. It is considered auspicious taking bath in Krishna before visiting the temple.

As the legend goes, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati arrived at the spot to pacify their angry son Kartikeya who felt cheated at the hand of his younger brother Ganesha. It all began when Shiva challenged that whosoever out his two sons would take rounds of the entire world faster would get married first. While Kartikeya began to take round of the world, Ganesha went around his parents believing that one’s parents are his/her world. Impressed by Ganesha’s wisdom and devotion, Shiva got him married first that enraged Kartikeya who decided to move away from his family and stay in the region. Shiva and Parvati thus decided to stay close to their son at Srisailam.

Pray at the temple (opens 06:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., costs for different types of pujas, aartis, prasads, abhishek and other rituals vary between INR 100-5,000) and relish its wondrous architecture. Later, visit the other popular shrines and temples like Bhrambaramba Temple and Akka Mahadevi Temple. Stay overnight at Srisailam.

Day 2: Srisailam Sightseeing – Hyderabad Departure

Have your breakfast before we take you for the sightseeing tour of other famous attractions in and around Srisailam. These include Sakshi Ganapati Temple, Paladhara Panchadhara, Srisailam Dam and Chenchu Lakshmi Museum (depending on the availability of time). Later, begin your journey back to Hyderabad. Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga tour ends when we drop you at the airport/railway station from where you begin the journey back to home.
