Shyok River is known to be a tributary of the Indus River which originates in Rimo Glacier and is a part of the magnificent Siachen Glacier. This beautiful river is surrounded with incredibly peaceful environment which makes it a must visit place in Leh. The most interesting feature of this river is its unusual flow. It first flows southeast joining the Pangong Range and then suddenly turns northwest, flowing parallel to its previous course.
Nubra Valley is surrounded by majestic mountains and it separates the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges. Over here, one will see a 35 meter long statue of Lord Buddha facing down the river towards Pakistan. There are no particular timings to visit this river. This place is known for its serenity, scenic beauty and picturesque surroundings.

Road:
Shyok River can be reached by road. It is advisable for tourists to hire a private cab to reach this place as the roads might not be very smooth to drive. One can reach Shyok River by hiring a cab from Leh (about 140 km.), which is the nearest town. State buses from Srinagar ply regularly to reach Leh. Saraks (about 294 km.) is also considered to be at a drivable distance for reaching Shyok River.
Railway:
Trains are not a very convenient mode of transport to reach Leh as the nearest railway station is Pathankot Railway Junction, Punjab (about 773 km.) to reach Leh. After reaching Leh one has to hire a cab or motorcycle to reach Shyok River.
Airway:
Nearest airport to reach Shyok River is Leh Airport (about 144 km.). Regular flights from major cities are available to reach this place. Private cars and motorcycles can be hired for reaching the destination directly from the airport.
