Shenduruny is a semi-evergreen forest which was declared a sanctuary in the year 1984. The name of this wildlife sanctuary has been derived from local tree found here. An artificial lake spreads in the middle of this sanctuary which beautifies the place. The entry to this wildlife sanctuary is paid along with a prior permission from the Wildlife Warden. Overnight stays and camping facilities are also available with an advance booking.
This place is a storehouse of biodiversity since different species of flora and fauna are found here. The vegetation consists of tropical evergreen forests, deciduous trees, medicinal herbs and innumerable varieties of flowering plants. This is a must visit place for adventure seekers and nature lovers as it is home to various animal species including the Nilgiri Langur, the lion-tailed macaque, leopards, tigers, Indian giant squirrels, wild boar and the Indian elephant. Many different varieties of migratory birds can also be spotted here.
The Shenduruny Wildlife Sanctuary is also an important archeological site since a rock shelter with pre-historic engravings from Mesolithic period has been found here.
