John Sullivan, the founder of Ooty, dammed the mountain streams in the region to construct the picturesque Ooty Lake in 1824. Spread over 2.5 km. in an irregular ‘L’ shape, the lake is well-known for its luxuriant greenery contributed by eucalyptus. The main attraction of the lake is its Boat House offering invigorating rides on motor boats, row boats and paddle boats.
Other highlights of the lake include a mini garden, a toy train, an amusement park, a 3D simulation theatre and a deer park. Restaurants and snack bars add to the picnic quality of the lake. Pony rides near the lake are also worth taking. Visit the lake during May when boat races and pageantry competitions are held. Tourists need to pay additional costs for boat rides, video games, toy train rides and other attractions.
