Meenkunnu Beach, which is an extension of Payyambalam Beach, is located in the Kannur District of Kerala. The name is the combination of two words – meen (which means fish) and kunnu (which means hill). The Azhikode village is the nearest settlement to the beach. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the beach is known for being calm and quiet. The fact that it remains crowd-free adds to its appeal.
The beach is the perfect setting for photography enthusiasts since the beach is an uninterrupted stretch of golden sand interspersed with coconut trees and calm waters. The road leading to the beach is described as the biker’s paradise trail as it is an isolated long stretch. Spectacular scenes of the rising and the setting sun lend an exquisite charm to the place.
In the recent times, the adventures like power kiting, parasailing, kite surfing and paragliding have come up near the beach. Trekking to the small cliffs is worth enjoying. It is also possible to stay at one of the resorts near the beach and enjoy the nature’s flawless beauty.
