The most coveted spot for bird lovers and hikers, Karnala Bird Sanctuary is positioned in Panvel, outside Mumbai. Although a small refuge, the place houses more than 150 resident bird species and 37 migratory bird species. Bird watchers can spot three rare bird varieties like Malabar Trogon, Ashy Minivet and three toed Kingfisher etc.
 
Nuzzled in the heart of Sahyadri hills, the sanctuary consists of moist deciduous forest. Monsoon is regarded as the ideal time for spotting the paradise flycatcher, Malabar whistling thrush and magpie robin.
 
Bird lovers seeking the glimpse of migratory birds, can choose to visit Karnala Bird Sanctuary during winter. The red breasted flycatcher, the blue-headed rock-thrush, the blue throat and blackbird bunch to the sanctuary during winter.
 
Visitors can enjoy the nearby attractions like Karnala Pinnacle, Lonavala, Khopoli, Karnala Fort and Matheran. 

Connectivites

Road: Buses ply between Mumbai to Panvel regularly. The sanctuary is connected by well-developed National Highway 17. You can hire a taxi or auto rickshaw (6 sitters) to reach the place.

Railway: Panvel Railway Station (located about 13 km.) is the nearest railhead to reach the sanctuary. You can take a taxi, bus or auto from the station. State Transport buses are easily available.

Airway: Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (located about 53 km.) is the nearest airport to reach Karnala Bird Sanctuary. You can book a prepaid taxi to reach the place.
