Imitating the architecture and magnificence of the original Jagannath Temple at Puri, the temple by same name at Ranchi is a popular tourist attraction and pilgrimage site. Though small in size than the Puri temple, it is no less in terms of architectural excellence and religious significance. Perched on a hilltop, the temple was built by a local ruler Thakur Ani Nath Shahdeo in the year 1691.

Like the original temple, the Jagannath Temple of Ranchi is also dedicated to Lord Jagannath (a form of Lord Vishnu), his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra. Apart from the main shrine housing the idols of these three deities, there are idols of many other Hindu deities inside the temple. The annual Rath Yatra or Chariot Festival is organized with huge enthusiasm and attended by hundreds of devotees. You may choose to climb the stairs or use a vehicle road to access the temple. From the temple, one can enjoy marvellous views of the surroundings.
Connectivites

Road: Road: Being a state capital, Ranchi enjoys good road connectivity with many parts of India. The temple located on a hillock is accessible either on foot or via a narrow winding road that supports vehicle traffic. The climb can be strenuous for old age and physically unfit people. Rented two-wheelers and four-wheelers can be hired.

Railway: Hatia Railway Station is about 7 km. from the temple, while another good option is Ranchi Junction, about 10 km. away. You can hire a taxi or an auto-rickshaw from these stations to reach the base of the temple.

Airway: Those travelling by air can board a flight to the domestic airport of Ranchi, about 9 km. from the temple. Taxis and auto-rickshaws are the best modes to reach the temple from the airport.
