Dedicated to a memorable visit by Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, Gurudwara Charan Kanwal is located in the Machhiwara Town near the city of Ludhiana. According to the popular legend, the Guru, after escaping from the clutches of Mughal forces, quenched his thirst by drinking water from a well at this place and spent a full night sleeping under a jand tree. The tree is still present near the Sikh temple and the divine well is used to supply water to the gurudwara.
A beautiful white structure surrounded by immense calmness, the gurudwara is visited by devotees from all religions. It is also believed that the Guru sang his popular hymn ‘Mitar Pyare Nu’ at the same place. Also, three of his popular five devotees (known as Panj Pyare) met him here. Every year, a huge fair is held at the holy place on the occasion of Baisakhi in the month of April.

Road:
Located in the close proximity to a number of popular cities of Punjab, like Ludhiana, Mohali and Ropar, the holy shrine is easily accessible road. Excellent bus and taxi services run on the well-maintained roads, offering pleasant journeys through the green fields of the state.
Railway:
Samrala Railway Station is just 12 km. away from the gurudwara. Another good option is Ludhiana Railway Station which is about 40 km. away. Tourists coming from any popular North India destination can find trains to these stations and continue their journey further in taxis, cabs and local buses.
Airway:
Sahnewal Airport is about 33 km. from this popular destination. There are regular flights connecting it to Delhi. Chandigarh Airport, about 80 km. away, is another good option. Hiring taxis from any of these places won’t be a problem.
