Home to several flora and about 375 fauna species, the Great Himalayan National Park is undoubtedly a Mecca for nature and wildlife lovers. Also known as Jawaharlal Nehru Great Himalayan National Park, the park has nearly 3 reptiles, 9 amphibians, 17 mollusks, 31 mammals, 181 birds and 127 insects.
Unfolded in about 765 sq.km. the National Park has deciduous broadleaved forests of oak and bamboo. A protected habitat for an array of animals and birds (including endangered species), the National Park offers an amazing view of musk deer, brown bears, Ibex, Himalayan Tahr, black bears and rare species of snow leopard.
Other than the National Park, tourist can enjoy the nearby attractions viz. Mandi, Mata Kuan Rani Temple, Manikaran, Naggar and Murlidhar Mandir etc.
Connectivites
Road:
Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation buses are available that connects the national park with the nearest cities. The road condition is relatively good. Shimla, Chandigarh and Delhi are best connected by deluxe buses.
Railway:
Jogindernagar Railway Station (Around 114 km. from Banjar), Kalka (Around 236 km. from Banjar) and Chandigarh Railway Station (Around 249 km. from Banjar) are the nearest railheads to reach the national park.
Airway:
Bhuntar Airport located about 10 km. away is the nearest airport to reach the national park. Regular flights from different cities of the country are available. Prepaid taxi service is available from outside the airport.
