One of the crowning glories of Udaipur is Fateh Sagar Lake, an artificial lake originally constructed in 1687 by Maharana Jai Singh and refurbished by Maharana Fatah Singh some 200 years later. Known for its serene atmosphere and picturesque beauty, the lake is bounded on three sides by the rugged Aravalli Hills. The contrast of blue water with greenery is extremely eye-pleasing.
Fatah Sagar Lake has three islands, the most popular being the Nehru Park. Accessible by an exhilarating ride in speed motor boat, the park has a zoo and a restaurant. The second island is popular for its get fountains, while Udaipur Solar Observatory finds home at the third island.
The most spectacular view of the lake and its surroundings comes alive at evening when gleaming lights add fascinating visual effects to the whole sight. Be sure to not miss the sunset view as it will keep you amused for long time. Hariyali Amavasya Mela is the annual festival organized near the lake in the months of August-September.
