Dargah Sharif, also known as Ajmer Sharif, is one of the most revered Muslim pilgrimage sites in the world. It is home to the holy mausoleum, where the Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti rests in peace. The most striking aspect of the place is that followers of all religions driven by their immense faith visit the shrine. It is strongly believed that visiting the Dargah can purify one’s soul and connects directly to the Almighty.
Colourful sheets (called chadars) are what the devout pilgrims offer at Dargah Sharif. Urs (death anniversary celebrations) is the best time to visit the place and experience the enthusiasm and devotion of pilgrims visiting in huge flocks. Kalanders (fondly called the friends of the saint) cover hundreds of miles on foot to reach the place every year. The premise has many structures boasting of splendid Mughal art and architecture worth exploring. Be sure to dress up properly while visiting the religious place.
