Home to one of the 12 Jyotirlingas (where Lord Shiva is worshipped as an endless pillar of divine light), Baidyanath is one of the top Hindu pilgrimage destinations of East India. Popularly known as Baidyanath Dham and Baba Dham, the temple complex consists of one main temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and 21 other temples dedicated to different deities. The temple holds significance from the legend of demon king Ravana who was a devout follower of Shiva.
The main temple is a stone pyramidal structure which houses the cylindrical shaped Shiva Lingam. Other highlights of the temple include Chandrakanta Mani (a jewel in the form of lotus) and Punchsula (five knives in the shape of trident). Visiting the temple during popular festivals can be an extraordinary experience.
