Archaeological Survey of India established the Archaeological Museum of Konark in 1968 and today it is a popular tourist destination. The museum houses antiquities collected from the nearby Sun Temple which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tourists visiting the temple must pay a visit to the museum to complete their trip.
Collections of temple’s fallen architectural elements are well-preserved in the museum. More than 260 sculptures, images, figures and artefacts are displayed in four different galleries. Images of God Sun, Lord Vishnu, celestial nymphs, dancers, animals and few erotic images are among the top attractions at the museum.
A visit to the museum helps one explore the glorious art, architecture and culture of ancient India. Other popular attractions in the close vicinity include Sun Temple, Konark Beach, numerous villages and some old temples.
