Weekly Bilateral Air Traffic between Dubai-India Set to Increase in 3 Phases
In the latest development that may bring down the airfares for travelling by air between Dubai and India, the two destinations have agreed upon the decision to increase the weekly seat quotas. The long-pending and constantly reviewed agreement was signed at the end of February, 2014.
As revealed by the concerned sources, the current number of 54,000 seats will increase to 65,000 in three phases – 5,500 from the March-end, 3,300 from the October-end and 2,200 from the 2015 summer schedule. Earlier, the demand from Dubai carriers to increase the seats by 20,000 was denied by the Indian counterparts in 2012.
The agreement is also expected to offer new points of call in India to the Dubai air carriers. In return, the Dubai Airport has given the India air carriers the green signal to use the facility for gauge service. It means that the India carriers will be able to switch their passengers to smaller or bigger aircrafts at the airport for any further journey.
The agreement has come after a similar decision taken by India to increase seat quotas for the air traffic the country shares with Abu Dhabi. With an increase in the seat quota, one can expect the stiffening of the competition among the air carriers. This will definitely benefit the air travellers who can expect cutting down of airfares.
