Indian Government Plans New Measures - Encouraged by Foreign Tourist Arrival The Indian tourism industry is experiencing a golden phase. If the latest statistics are to be believed, there has been consistent rise in the numbers of foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) since the beginning of 2014. Here are some figures to clear the picture: · 4.21 lakh FTAs recorded in May 2014, accounting to a growth of 9.7% over May, 2013. · 30.52 lakh foreign tourists visited India from January to May 2014, marking a growth of 6.6% over the same period of 2013. · 1,833 visas on arrival (VoA) issued in May 2014, indicating a growth of 19.1% over May 2013.
Among the top sources of foreign tourists arriving in India are the countries like Japan, New Zealand, Indonesia, Singapore, Myanmar and Vietnam. The Ministry of Tourism credits many factors responsible for this growth, including the extension of VoA services to 180 countries across the globe. The new government at the centre, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is all set to introduce many new measures for further boost in the tourism industry. It is worth mentioning that Modi is expected to follow the intense tourism approach that he followed as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. In fact, Tourism features among the 5 T’s that are currently the government’s priority, the other four being Talent, Tradition, Trade and Technology. Among the latest measures to facilitate the tourists visiting India, the Ministry of Tourism has come up with the ‘Incredible India Walking Tours’ mobile application that would guide the independent travellers to explore top 16 tourism destinations of India.
