Electronic Visa and Other Highlights – How Budget 2014 Facilitates India Tourism Industry?
Even with a rising contribution towards GDP, the tourism industry of India still lacks in terms of competitiveness when compared with other destinations around the world. Taking it seriously, the newly formed Indian Government is determined to woo more foreign tourists with a number of plans that were presented as a part of the annual budget recently.
Among the most notable announcements is the plan to implement electronic visa or e-visa at nine top airports. The step will ensure easy procurement of visa that will ultimately have a positive impact on the numbers of tourists planning to visit India. The required infrastructure to implement the facility would be ready at the nine airports across the country within the next six months. It is indeed a good strategy at the right time, especially when the country is experiencing a boost in the inbound medical tourism.
Another initiative from the government would be the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) to promote religious heritage and tourism at some of the topmost destinations across the country. Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage circuits covering cities like Gaya, Varanasi and Sarnath are in special focus, targeting the pilgrimage tourists from Southeast Asia.
National Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) is yet another endeavor for the new financial year, aiming at conserving the heritage cities like Ajmer, Amritsar, Mathura, Kanchipuram and many others. The Finance Minster Mr. Arun Jaitley allocated the big amount of INR 500 crore to revive five tourism circuits belonging to different themes. Different sections that constitute the Indian tourism industry are confident about the new measures to improve the country’s image on the world tourism map.
If the surveys and reviews posted by the travellers visiting the country are to be believed, India is being explored by the tourists interested in adventure, history, culture and heritage, family holidaying, honeymoon, Ayurveda, yoga and meditation, religious itineraries and several other themes.
