Bhimakali Temple – Epitome of Art and Mysticism in Himalayas
About 150 km. northwest of Shimla, the world-famous summer retreat of Himachal Pradesh, is the beautiful town of Sarahan. The nature here refuses to compromise with urbanization and succeeds to safeguard the unique heritage masterpiece called Bhimakali Temple. Counted among the 51 Shakti Peethas (places where Goddess Shakti is worshipped), the temple boasts of an unusual wood architecture with refined and intricate woodwork with the highest degree of perfection.
Dedicated to the Bhimakali form of Shakti, the temple complex also has four important shrines to its credit – Lord Raghunathji Temple, Shri Narsinghji Temple, Shri Lankravir Temple and Lord Hanuman Temple. Another significant feature of the temple is a water body called Raja ki Bauli. It is believed that during the royal rule in the region, its water was used to worship the holy idol present inside the temple.
If not for spiritual reason, you must visit the temple to enjoy the unbound beauty of nature spread all around. The temple has enthralling backdrop of snow-clad mountain peaks that offer exclusive visual treat to the eyes. Apple orchards and blue pine forests add splendid worth to the town. It is indeed a pleasure to watch the slate-roof houses dotting the landscape.
Located close to the complex is the Sarahan Peasantry, where seven species of pheasant, including the state bird Monal, are bred. Another attraction in the region is the magnificent Bhaba Valley which has numerous alpine meadows, rivers, lakes and other vistas to its credit.
