Day by Day itineraryDay 1: Ahmedabad Arrival – Jamnagar (305 km.)Our tour representative welcomes you at the Ahmedabad Airport. From there, you visit some of the top attractions of the city. The city, known for its cotton industry and striking architecture, hosts many temples, museums and mosques along with leisure and wildlife attractions. Start with Sabarmati Riverfront which is surrounded by lush green parks and gardens. Enjoy the fabulous views or you may also indulge in boating and other water sports. (INR 15 for pedal boat, INR 20 for motor boat, INR 100 for speed boat and INR 200 for jet skiing). Later, visit Sabarmati Ashram (open till 06:30 p.m., entry free) which once serves as Mahatma Gandhi’s residence and is now a popular museum displaying paintings, books, letters and relics associated with him.
Start the road trip to Jamnagar, an erstwhile princely state popular as the Jewel of Kathiawar and located along the Gulf of Kutch. Popular for beaches, bird and marine life, royal structures and temples, the city is one of the largest cities in West India. Visit Lakhota Palace (INR 2/50 for Indians/foreigners) located on an island in the middle of a pristine lake. Explore the rare specimen of sculptures and pottery at the palace museum. Later, visit Bala Hanuman Temple which holds a record in Guinness Book for continuous chanting of Lord Rama’s name since 1964. Stay overnight at Jamnagar.
Day 2: Jamnagar-Dwarka (132 km.)Have breakfast and start the journey to the holy town of Dwarka located on the bank of River Gomti. Established as the capital of his royal kingdom by Lord Krishna, the town is the most revered Hindu pilgrimage destination in West India. Popular for the temple of Dwarkadheesh, where Krishna is worshipped as the King of Dwarka, the town is also known for other beautiful temples, holy ponds and sacred ghats. On arrival, check in at the booked hotel and get refreshed. Visit the strikingly beautiful Dwarkadheesh Temple to attend the mesmerizing evening aarti (prayers at 07:30 p.m.). It is believed that the temple was built more than 2,200 years ago at the spot where Krishna himself resided. Stay overnight at Dwarka.
Day 3: Dwarka – Nageshwar – Bet Dwarka – DwarkaWake up early in the morning to savour another hypnotic session of aarti (around 07:00 a.m.) at Dwarkadheesh Temple and relish the delicious prasada of sweet butter. Later, join us for the drive to Bet Dwarka Island. Stop at Rukmani Devi Temple which is dedicated to Devi Rukmini, one of the many consorts of Krishna. The temple boasts of rich carvings and was built at the place where Rukmini had to reside while living separately from Krishna due to a curse by Sage Durvasa. Resume the drive and on the route, visit one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples at Nageshwar Mahadev.
According to the mythological stories, the temple is built at the place where Shiva killed the demon named Daaruka and saved his devotees including Supriya who installed a Shiva Lingam here. It is also believed that those who worship in full faith at the temple are saved from all kinds of poison by Shiva. Pray at the temple (opens 05:00 a.m. to 09:00 p.m., closes from 12:30 p.m. to 05:00 p.m.; different puja thalis can be purchased starting from INR 105 to as high as INR 2,100). Reach the ferry boarding point and get onboard to reach Bet Dwarka. It is believed that Krishna lived here along with his family. Visit various temples before getting back to Dwarka for overnight stay.
Day 4: Dwarka – Porbanadar (105 km.) – Somnath (129 km.)Have breakfast before we begin Somnath Jyotirlinga tour from Dwarka. On the way, stop at Porbandar, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and visit the national memorial Kirti Mandir (opens 07:30 a.m. to 07:00 p.m.) built over the birth house of Gandhi. Discover the unique collections of photos, books and possessions of Gandhi. Later, visit Sudama Temple which is dedicated to the childhood friend and ardent devotee of Krishna named Sudama. Resume the trip to Somnath and check in at the booked hotel on arrival.
Somnath houses the foremost of all the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva inside the spectacular Somnath Jyotirlinga Temple. According to the famous Somnath Jyotirlinga story, it is believed that Moon God constructed the original temple in gold after he was relieved from a curse by Shiva. Later, the temple was constructed in silver and sandalwood during different eras and was ransacked numerous times by the Islamic invaders. The temple was reconstructed each time by the dedicated followers of Shiva and today, it stands flaunting the glorious Chalukya Architecture style. After relaxing, join the soothing evening aarti (prayers, at 07:00 p.m.) at the temple (opens 06:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.). You would be left speechless at the Light & Sound Show (starts 07:45 p.m., fees INR 25 for adults and INR 15 for children) at the premises. Stay overnight at Somnath.
Day 5: Somnath – Ahmedabad (407 km.) Departure Have breakfast early morning and start the return trip to Ahmedabad. Stop at Junagadh on the way to explore the ruins and structures of the city that once served as a princely state. Explore the attractions like Uparkot Fort (opens 07:00 a.m. to 07:00 p.m., entry fee INR 5/100 for Indians/foreigners), Ashoka’s Rock Edicts (opens 08:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m., entry fee INR 5/100 for Indians/foreigners) and various Buddhist Caves. Resume the journey to Ahmedabad and transfer to the airport on arrival. The temple tour Dwarka Somnath Nageshwar ends as you board the scheduled flight back to home.
